Hero-making Classroom Volume 1 Prologue

Prologue

National Skygrass Academy. A school with a small, three-story building situated out in the countryside. The principal’s office, located at the back of the third floor, is the workspace of me—Endy Skygrass.

Footsteps echoing down the hallway could be heard, followed by a resounding knock on the door.

“You can come in,” I replied, and a woman with long hair as white as snow entered.

“Thank you for your hard work, Sensei.”

“Yeah… though you and the others are the ones actually teaching the classes, and I’m just sitting here.”

At my words, Eve—my first student and a teacher at this academy—let out a soft smile.

Eve, who had climbed to the absolute highest rank of Special Grade as an adventurer, possesses top-tier skills in both swordsmanship and magic.

No matter how much time passes, it still feels surreal that she threw away such a brilliant career as an adventurer to become a teacher at a country academy like this.

“But aren’t you the one overseeing all of our classes, Sensei? There is no job as difficult as being the supervisor.”

“Is that how it is…?”

I replied, staring off into the distance. Of course, I have things to do from the evening into the night after classes end, but I’m not very busy before then.

At first, I dreamed of a lazy life where money would just roll in automatically, but actually achieving that left me overwhelmed by boredom instead.

“So, how are the classes going? I heard directly from Rui and the others, but I haven’t heard about Muu and Sana yet.”

“Regarding Muu, she said she wanted to come report to you herself. When I refused, she actually tried to use magic to turn invisible and head to this room. However, even if you erase your figure, you cannot erase your presence or the flow of air. I thoroughly dragged her out into the open.”

“No, I’m not asking to hear about your bickering with Muu. I’m asking how Muu’s class went.”

“My apologies.”

Clearing her throat, Eve flipped through the class report and skimmed over it.

The Muu we are talking about is my second student. A magical prodigy; one who dwells in the Abyss of Magic. She has many titles, and possesses a brilliant track record—even becoming a professor at a place called the Magic Tower after graduating from my classroom.

I also have to wonder why she came back to the middle of nowhere to become a teacher at this academy.

Actually, Eve is pretty absurd herself for being able to nonchalantly catch Muu, the world’s greatest mage. Usually, you’d lose track of someone once they turn invisible.

“As for her classes, they seem to be going smoothly. She is currently teaching elementary magic, and I heard from Muu herself that the students are understanding it quite well.”

“She’s been a teacher for quite a while now too. I guess explaining things is her forte.”

“She struggled quite a bit at first. But today, she apparently fired off high-tier magic at the end of class to delight the students. She was saying, ‘[I’m, amazing, smug]’.”

“…What a kid. Wait, she was a kid.”

Muu is a petite girl with a peculiar, halting way of speaking. She spaces out a lot, but apparently that makes her look mysterious to the students, making her quite popular.

For the record, I think the students who evaluate her like that have cloudy vision. At home, Muu goofs off all the time and loves making jokes. If anything, she’s more of the quirky oddball type.

“Next is Sana. I had entrusted her with the class reports while I was persuading Muu, but she acted as if to say, ‘[Then as a compromise, I shall go],’ and tried to sneak off to you, Sensei. So, Muu and I both had to stop her.”

“No, I said report on Sana’s class. I don’t need to hear about your squabbles.”

“My apologies.”

It seemed she was doing it on purpose, as the corners of Eve’s mouth ticked up just a tiny bit.

The Sana we just brought up is also my student, a master swordswoman who freely wields two katanas. Like Eve, she climbed to the highest adventurer rank, and on top of that, holds the title of [Hero]—one of only a few in the world. On the streets, she’s sometimes called the [Katana Princess].

She is also a teacher at my academy. Furthermore, she’s a newly appointed one.

She could have just kept being a Hero; I have no idea why she so fervently desired to take up the baton at my academy.

“It seems there are no major issues with Sana’s classes, either. She takes good care of the students and provides guidance that stays quite close to each individual. Though she did mention that she sometimes puts in too much power and unleashes a devastating strike during mock battles.”

“Monstrous strength, as usual.”

“If she were serious, even I wouldn’t be able to take it head-on.”

In contrast to Muu, Sana is a woman who is quite large in various ways. She’s a peerless beauty reminiscent of a Yamato Nadeshiko, but due to a certain incident in the past, she possesses superhuman physical abilities.

She’s popular with the students for her elegance and beauty, but at home, she calls me [Father] and can sometimes be a bit pushy.

“And naturally, Eve has no problems either, right?”

“Yes, I plan to continue guiding the students.”

“How reliable.”

The magical prodigy Muu, the sword genius Sana, and Eve, who excels at both sword and magic.

Not just them, but the academy’s teaching staff is full of exceptional talent. Almost all of them possess greater talent than an ordinary guy like me, and are stronger than me. Yet, all these men and women adore me.

“Come to think of it, Sensei… I heard you received some sweets from Sana.”

“…Yeah, right before noon.”

“And that you slept together with Muu yesterday.”

“That’s completely wrong; that idiot just crawled into my bed on her own.”

“I see, I see… and you’ve made many other intimate female acquaintances in other countries too… You really are quite the handful, Sensei.”

“…………”

Actually, they adore me a little too much. To the point where I almost feel a sense of dread.

“I do wonder about the fact that those who adore you are almost exclusively women, Sensei… but your classes are wonderful, so it can’t be helped that your female students revere you. …Ah, by the way, a letter arrived from His Majesty Agate regarding the reward money.”

“Oh, it’s here? Give me the details.”

When I bit into the topic dangled right in front of me, Eve pulled a letter from her breast pocket.

“It was divided into the matter with Muu and me, and the matter with you and Sana, Sensei. However, I felt the amount for your and Sana’s matter was insufficient, so I sent it back.”

“Huh? Was there something strange about it?”

At my words, Eve replied with a beautiful smile.

“Yes. Even though Sana’s amount was fitting for a Hero, they presented a slightly cheaper amount for you, Sensei, treating you as a general adventurer. That is simply unacceptable.”

“Well, I mean, I’m not a Hero.”

“Please rest assured. I made sure to demand a sum greater than Sana’s.”

Where’s the reassuring part in that? Well, it’s always better to get more money, I thought, giving Eve a wry smile as I spoke.

“The fact that you can act that strong-armed with a King just proves how amazing you are.”

“?? It’s about you, Sensei, so this isn’t acting strong or anything; it’s completely normal. From my perspective, you stand higher than Heroes or Kings.”

“…Is that right.”

I decided not to think too deeply about it. It wasn’t like this was a new thing with Eve.

“Ah, come to think of it, I got my hands on some good ingredients in town yesterday, so I’m thinking of making your favorite for dinner tonight, Sensei.”

“Oh, seriously? I’ll be looking forward to it.”

“Yes, please look forward to it. Well then, if you’ll excuse me. I still have some unfinished business to take care of.”

“…Ah, don’t push yourself too hard, alright?”

“Hehe♪ Thank you very much.”

With a bright smile, Eve left the room.

She’s probably going to have a mock battle with Sana and Muu after this. Eve had taken on the role of bringing the class reports, but given this recent incident, Muu and Sana would likely want to do it too. And if that happens, they’ll need to decide on an order.

“…I wonder why things ended up like this.”

Staring off into the distance, I muttered to myself.

Just a short walk from the back of the large, three-story school building, there was a small hut. Because Eve maintained it, there was absolutely no dirt or vines crawling up the walls.

I opened the door and stepped inside. I was greeted by a table placed in the center of the room, flanked by two chairs on each side—four in total. Sitting in one of them, I gazed around the entire interior of the hut.

“Brings back memories.”

Today, Skygrass Academy boasts vast grounds and magnificent school buildings.

But in the beginning, it didn’t have such an imposing name; it wasn’t even a school building, let alone an academy.

There was only this one, single, small classroom.

I taught Eve and Muu in this classroom, and gradually, the classroom grew larger.

Even though it’s no longer used, this hut, this classroom… is where it all began.

“A lot of things happened.”

Leaning back against the chair, I muttered with deep emotion, tracing back through the long passage of time in my mind.

Going back past my encounters with Sana, Muu, and Eve, I rewound the clock in my head.

Even now, I clearly remember the day this classroom was built.
