C-level magic student Volume 2 Chapter 12 part 1

Chapter 12: Captain Match, Conclusion

Shion had transformed his Limit Accel into an even higher realm of acceleration magic, reaching a lightning-fast speed that surpassed even his normal Limit Accel state.

However, in exchange for this extraordinary acceleration, the burden on his body had become even greater.

Limit Accel was extremely difficult to activate, and those with compatible magical power were exceedingly rare, causing its lineage to die out and the technique to be forgotten.

While Shion had revived this “forgotten magic” in the modern era, he was by no means someone who possessed a body naturally adapted to Limit Accel.

Through extraordinary training, he had forced his body to adapt to Limit Accel after the fact—he was merely forcing its activation through sheer will.

Given that Limit Accel already placed a burden on the body during activation, when it transformed into an even higher realm of acceleration magic, it was inevitable that the load on Shion’s body would increase explosively.

Assaulted by extraordinary pain beyond normal limits, Shion’s flesh was moving while maintaining a precarious state where it could collapse at any moment.

Moreover, he was sustaining a level of concentration that felt like his brain might burn out just to maintain the activation of Limit Accel/Over Limit.

If he let his concentration slip even slightly, Shion instinctively knew that the activation of Limit Accel/Over Limit would cease, and it would become irreversible.

That’s why he desperately held onto his concentration that threatened to break from the pain, continuing forward while pouring out everything he had, as if using his very life as fuel.

—Push forward relentlessly, never stop.

He bent his upper body forward, holding his sword blade against his right shoulder as he sprinted like a flash of light.

—Faster, further forward…!

Looking only ahead, exhausting everything he had as he ran, Ichinose Shion finally entered the range where his sword could reach Reacher.

At that moment, killing intent of an entirely different magnitude than before emanated from Reacher, and murderous intent that seemed to target Shion specifically pierced through from behind the full-face helmet.

Even so, Shion’s consciousness was focused on only one thing: “Landing my fastest strike.”

He stepped powerfully with his left foot, lowered his stance slightly, twisted his upper body to the right, and raised his sword.

A particularly fierce light shone in his eyes, and as if in response, lightning-like magical energy surged through his body.

—In this moment, with this strike—I’ll give my everything!

The blade, traveling far beyond the speed of sound, was swung toward Reacher Diablo’s torso.

…And immediately after.

This Captain Match was decided in an instant.

What the audience could perceive during that match was only the sound that came after something had happened.

It reached the audience’s ears at exactly the same moment as the declaration of the match’s start—right as the announcement finished. It was a tremendously heavy metallic collision sound, as if the very earth had been shattered.

What could be seen on the field after only that sound echoed was Shion, positioned as if he had passed slightly behind Reacher, and Reacher, standing in a position as if he had retreated slightly from his original spot.

Shion was frozen in a low crouch as if he had diagonally swung down his sword, while Reacher stood with his posture slightly collapsed at an angle, as if his body had been pushed.

And the crystal attached to the left chest of Reacher’s armor, remaining motionless in that position—had changed color from green to red.

The audience seats fell completely silent.

“…Eh? …Huh?”

All the students in the audience who saw the scene on the field were left speechless, either dumbfounded or stunned.

“—…De-Decision!”

An announcement flowed through the silent venue.

“Captain Match, concluded! Winner—Magic Academy!”

【WINNER: Ichinose Shion】

Simultaneously with the announcement, the winner’s name was displayed on the giant board in the venue.

After the staff’s announcement, another brief silence fell.

…And then, a few seconds later.

“—Eh?”

Like a dam bursting, voices from students throughout the stands erupted.

“”””Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!?””””

Voices of shock and amazement so loud they shook the air filled the entire arena.

The students all had their eyes wide open in unison.

“Re-Reacher Diablo… lost!?”

“Wait, a C-rank defeated an S-rank!?”

“And in just an instant…!”

“That was an instant kill, wasn’t it…!?”

“Wh-what just happened…!?”

Unable to comprehend the situation, the students voiced their questions one after another.

“Eh, but wait… we won…? Magic Academy, us…?”

“Ah, now that you mention it… we’re winning, right…?”

Having been so shocked by the scene that they were slow to realize it, the Magic Academy students eventually noticed that they had won the inter-school competition and erupted in cheers of joy.

“Y-yeahhhhh! I don’t really understand what happened, but we won!”

“Uooooooh!”

“Well done, C-rank!… No, Ichinose!”

At this completely unexpected victory, the Magic Academy students raised both hands and cheered with joy.

“Yay! As expected, yansu! Shion-aniki!”

While the surrounding students raised loud cheers, Elliott Freegan clenched his fists and happily waved both hands up and down.

“Ooooooh! O…ooooooh! Yeah! We won! We did it, Magic Academy! We did it, Alphonse!”

Dezel Evans struck a powerful victory pose.

“We’re lucky we weren’t killed…”

The trio from Magic Academy’s second-year Class A—Kevin, Som, and Dominic—trembled as they let out terrified voices.

“I-impossible… why is Ichinose so strong…!?”

The students who were Ichinose Shion’s classmates in second-year Class C all showed expressions of shock.

“(…Ichinose-kun…)”

Lina Restia, sitting in the back row, held back her sobs with her hand over her mouth, tears welling in her eyes.

“What a guy…”

Lloyd Sigurd, who had been watching the live broadcast of the Captain Match from the Knight Academy’s waiting room, unconsciously let out a voice of awe at the sight of the man he had faced several weeks ago.

“(Both Yufia and that guy… I can’t even imagine catching up to them as I am now… But someday I’ll definitely…)”

Eliza Lowred, who had been watching the broadcast from the Magic Academy’s waiting room, lit a strong light in her eyes.

“(As I thought, you’re an incredibly amazing person… Shion-kun)”

Similarly, Alphonse Fried, who had been watching the broadcast from the waiting room, showed an expression that seemed much happier and prouder than when he had won his own Match…
