The Girl is Unbeatable Volume 3 Prologue

Prologue / Can You Really Review Everything This Easily!? The Story So Far!

Let’s talk about what happened last time!

Izumi Sumie, a high school student from a fairly well-to-do family, was pushed into a corner by the “confession bomb” dropped by the transfer student, Nanao Nanase!

But Izumi wasn’t the only one in a crisis.

Three “Romance Heavyweights”—the main heroines who had been secretly harboring feelings for him—rose to the challenge.

  • Amane Amasaki (An active professional model).

  • Hakua Shiragiku (The perfect Student Council President).

  • Haru Kasuga (His junior/-kouhai- from his club).

    These three formed an alliance with the goal of “reclaiming Izumi” to stand against Nanao.

    —HOWEVER!

    Though the alliance started on good terms, the group was essentially just three girls who all had a crush on Izumi Sumie.

    Because of these high-pride girls and their shallow “status-flexing” battles, their bond collapsed almost immediately.

    At that point, Hakua Shiragiku relied on her family’s connections to summon a powerful helper.

    Meina Akeboshi.

    Hakua’s secretary-in-training.

    Furthermore, she is a returnee from abroad and a genius hailed as “All-Knowing Brain” due to her clear intellect and temperament.

    With the blessing of the “Great H” (Sage/Wisdom), Hakua was certain of her victory.

    —BUT, after a lot of stuff happened, Meina defected!

    To make matters worse, Meina teamed up with Nanao and began moving to bring about Izumi’s downfall.

    A panicked Hakua, after much chaotic fussing…

    —For some reason, during the Sports Festival, she blurted out a confession of love to Izumi in front of the entire student body!

    And so, Hakua and Izumi (?) were enjoying their “Happy Reward Time” during the Sports Festival lunch break.

    But behind the scenes, a great disaster was beginning to move—…

    It was a dim room.

    The time was 10:00 PM.

    It was the night of the Sports Festival.

    Three LCD displays were lined up on a large desk, projecting a realistic battlefield. Multiple soldiers holding rifles were moving back and forth.

    It was footage from an FPS game.

    In front of a massive PC setup that felt like it occupied most of the 10-square-meter Western-style room, a girl sat clicking her mouse with hollow eyes.

    It was Haru Kasuga.

    As she moved her mouse slightly, the soldier on the display shifted their aim. While lightly tapping the keyboard with her left hand, Haru made her soldier run.

    Soon, she spotted the shadow of an enemy soldier.

    Targeting the opponent who hadn’t noticed her yet, Haru immediately raised her gun.

    With those same hollow eyes, she muttered into her expensive-looking, chunky headset:

    “Die.”

    In that instant, a bright red effect appeared on the back of the enemy soldier’s head.

    Their life bar was shredded by about 70%, and before they could even turn around, they were finished off by a burst of rapid fire.

    As Haru finished the enemy, comments flowed into the chat box in the bottom right corner of the display: [So fast!] [HAL-sama is as efficient as ever] [Wait, isn’t the opponent a pro?]

    Haru silently holstered her gun and ran across the map looking for the next enemy. Noticing footsteps behind her, she spun around, aimed, and fired in one motion.

    She ended up in a shootout with an opponent who had also raised their gun—but Haru’s shots, despite her aiming second, buried the enemy.

    The chat went wild over her playstyle, which made it seem as if she had eyes in the back of her head (within the game, at least). Some comments suspected cheating, but they were forced to retreat after being bombarded with counterarguments from other listeners.

    Haru continued her march toward victory.

    Soon, she found a new enemy. Since she encountered them from behind, she had the chance for a preemptive strike.

    Haru’s avatar immediately raised its gun, pulled the trigger—and…

    [INORIN: I didn’t know Senpai had a little sister~]

    A comment suddenly appeared in the bottom right corner.

    In that instant, the gunfire that had boasted machine-like accuracy until now strayed slightly. Naturally, the opponent noticed Haru’s presence and counterattacked.

    It became a head-on shootout, and Haru barely managed to win.

    However, the fact that she failed to kill with the first shot sent a shockwave through the listeners. Amidst the frantic comments, that suspicious account from earlier dropped another comment.

    [INORIN: Yay~ she missed~♪ Noob, noob~♪]

    …Haru’s temple twitched.

    At that moment, she encountered another enemy soldier. The hand holding the mouse moved slightly, and she aimed the muzzle again.

    But—…

    [INORIN: You’re way too shaken just because Senpai has a sister~♪]

    Haru’s shots flew off in a random direction, and finally, Haru’s soldier was gunned down.

    The listeners, of course, picked up on her obvious agitation. Haru, who usually slaughtered enemies with a blank expression, was now turning bright red and gasping like a fish, causing the stream to hype up with “What’s going on?”

    The comment section was suddenly flooded with “What happened? You okay? Want to talk about it?” types, so Haru took the forceful route to end it.

    “…I’m not feeling well today. It’s over.”

    After forcibly ending the stream, Haru opened the curtains of her room.

    The window of the house opposite hers was open as if waiting for her, and there was her best friend, Inori, waving with a smirk.

    Haru, her face bright red, threw a complaint at her.

    “Inori! Don’t say weird things and interfere!”

    “Eh~? But it’s the truth~♪”

    While retorting, Inori was smoothly “ego-searching” on her smartphone.

    The listeners who had been watching the stream were making a small fuss: [Did HAL-sama really just rage-quit??] [Ugh, I missed it!] [The log is still there] [Wasn’t INORIN-san saying something weird?] [What’s this about a sister?] [Wait, more importantly, who’s this ‘Senpai’!] [Could it be a boyfriend!?!?!?]

    Satisfied with the reaction, Inori let out a smug “Mufu~” through her nose.

    Usually, at school, she was nicknamed “Angel-chan” because of her gentle and likeable personality. But only in front of her childhood friend Haru (and recently, Izumi was being added to that list), she was a troublesome girl who teased people with these mischievous “prankster” moves.

    However, for Haru, those SNS reactions didn’t matter.

    The problem was Inori’s accusation. Even though Haru was clearly too shaken for it to be a mere “accusation,” to her, it was an accusation nonetheless.

    Then, as if on cue, she let out a mumble in a thin, faint voice.

    “I don’t really care if -Senpai- has a little sister or not…”

    Inori narrowed her eyes with a grin.

    She reached for a bag of potato chips on her desk. Even though she had the alias “Angel-chan” for her lovely behavior at school, in this completely private space, she didn’t care about late-night junk food. Rest assured, the god of the “Inori-chan Religion” has not forbidden late-night potato chips.

    As she put one in her mouth and snapped it, she said with a knowing look:

    “But still~, the way that sister spoke~…”

    Seeing Haru flinch, Inori narrowed her eyes further.

    “Doesn’t it seem like the reason -Senpai- was looking after Haru until now was just because he was lonely since he couldn’t see his sister~? Don’t tell me you were just being seen as a replacement for his sister~?”

    ~~~~~!!?”
    Struck right in the bullseye, Haru’s face dyed bright red. While her mouth hung open trying to say something back… she slowly sat down on her bed, hugged her knees, and slumped over.
    “…I wonder if that’s it.”
    “Ah, geez! It was a joke! Haru, you’re usually so tough, so why do you get like this when it comes to -Senpai-!?”
    What a handful.
    They had been together since she moved to this house back in kindergarten, but Inori had never seen Haru become such a mentally unstable “wobble-chan.”
    Love truly changes people.
    Inori sighed and thought back to what happened during the day.
    “But still. We heard that ‘sister’ person talking to Akeboshi-senpai, right?”
    “…Yeah.”
    During the Sports Festival lunch break.
    A girl claiming to be Izumi’s sister appeared before Nanao and Meina, who were having lunch together behind the school building. Since they happened to be there, Haru and the others heard the conversation.
    Recalling that conversation, Haru suddenly raised her voice in a panic.
    “-Senpai- is going to be forced to transfer to Seirin Girl’s Academy!”
“No, it’s a girls’ school, so that’s not happening…”
That was Inori’s calm retort.
And reacting to the loud voice just now, a large dog in the garden of Inori’s house barked.
“Haru. You finally got into the same school as -Senpai-, are you really okay with things staying like this?”
“…………”
Inori’s question was full of concern.
It was, without a doubt, a word filled with genuine care for a childhood friend she had spent a long time with. Precisely because she understood that, Haru also fell into deep thought.
Six months ago.
Back when they were still middle schoolers, Haru had snapped at some guys who approached Inori in town, as she usually did. But that one time, the opponents were bad news, and they almost ended up in a dangerous situation.
The one who swooped in and gallantly rescued them was Izumi Sumie.
…Well, there might be a bit of “memory correction” involved, but in any case, it was a fact that Izumi had saved Haru and Inori from a pinch.
A hot feeling, unlike anything she had experienced in her life, ignited in Haru’s chest.
The one who once saved her was now in a crisis!
If she just watched with her thumb in her mouth, she wouldn’t be much of a woman!
Haru tightly clenched her fist and declared as if swearing to the night sky:
“I will stop -Senpai- from transferring!”
“…………”
Seeing her childhood friend showing such gallant determination,
what bloomed in Inori’s chest was—a slight sense of disappointment.
(I meant you should just hurry up and confess already…)
In the first place, a transfer decided by relatives isn’t usually something a third party can do anything about.
Reality isn’t like manga or dramas.
Family circumstances were a “cheat” ultimate weapon that nothing could overturn.
However, at this time—…
Who could have predicted that the back of the girl Inori (who was supposed to be her best friend and confidant) was looking at with a “What is this girl saying…” vibe would later end up in that kind of situation?
—I repeat.
This is not a story about a heroine race, nor is it a story about a “villainess” little sister who imposes tyranny on an older brother she looks down on.
Or perhaps, there were times when it might have been a story where Nanao Nanase was simply unrivaled.
But this time specifically!
This is a miraculous comeback drama sparked by a young girl’s small courage!
—Probably!!
