Spirit Master Who Is Volume 2 Chapter 6 part 6

“Don’t regret losing.”

“Hate to break it to you, but I’ve never regretted anything. Please, enlighten me.”

“Fine. I’ll cut you down along with that Demon King!”

Words met with words.

Rourke poured all his spiritual energy into his sword spirit and the evil spirit, not caring about the consequences or the future.

All that mattered was this moment, with every fiber of his being.

“Go, Kuro!!”

At Rourke’s command, spiritual energy burst from the evil spirit, sending debris flying into the air. The spirit then hurled all the rubble toward the Demon King.

The debris struck the Demon King’s body, shattering into dust upon impact.

“That’s it? That won’t even scratch the Demon King!!”

Kay sneered as he waved his baton. In response, the Demon King moved with surprising speed for its massive frame, swinging its arm toward Rourke.

“Heavy Sword: Roar!!”

A deep, resonant sound erupted from Rourke’s sword spirit.

Realizing he couldn’t dodge in time, Rourke pointed his sword forward, channeling gravity into the blade. He stomped the ground and thrust the sword with all his might toward the incoming black fist.

The dense spiritual energy released from the blade struck the fist like a cannonball, sending the Demon King’s arm flying backward. The collision of their evil energies created a shockwave that surged toward Rourke.

“Ugh!!”

“Nice one!!”

Rourke shielded his face with both arms, enduring the impact, but there was no time to rest.

The Demon King, already recovering, raised its other arm high and swung it down like a blunt weapon.

“Kuro!!”

[○@▽×!!]

The spirit responded with its usual incomprehensible words, but Rourke understood its intent.

He leapt into the air with all his strength, vanishing from the spot in an instant.

“What!?”

Kay, momentarily stunned by what seemed like teleportation, quickly used his spiritual senses to track Rourke. He found Rourke already high above, standing on the back of the evil spirit that had retreated there earlier.

“I see.”

It seemed that Rourke’s incredible speed wasn’t just his own doing. The evil spirit had used its spiritual power to manipulate gravity, pulling Rourke toward itself and enabling that rapid movement.

Kay admires this fact.

Kay couldn’t help but admire the flawless coordination.

But admiration aside, the battle was far from over.

“But speed alone won’t win you this fight!!”

Kay shouted, raising his baton. The Demon King spun its body and launched an uppercut toward Rourke and the spirit.

“Who said I’m just running away!?”

Rourke leapt from the spirit’s back, narrowly dodging the fist that tore through the air. Gripping his sword with both hands, he swung it horizontally, slicing through the Demon King’s wrist. The blade cut deep, severing the spiritual energy that formed the wrist.

As the spiritual energy dissipated, Rourke felt a brief sense of accomplishment. But the Demon King, undeterred, swung its now-blunt arm toward him.

“Gah!?”

Caught off guard, Rourke was sent flying. Just before crashing into the wall, the evil spirit’s spiritual power cushioned his fall, allowing him to land safely.

“…Damn it.”

“You might have misunderstood because of its appearance, but this Demon King is just a mass of spiritual energy. No matter how much damage you deal, it won’t flinch. And as for injuries…”

Kay waved his baton, and the Demon King’s arm regenerated from the severed section, fully restored within seconds.

“Now, can you overcome this?”

“Trallus, you know the answer, don’t you?”

No matter how many times he slashed, the Demon King would regenerate.

And Kay was protected by multiple layers of powerful barriers.

Faced with this seemingly hopeless situation, Rourke spoke words that came from the heart.

“The Demon King in any story is always defeated by the hero, right?”

“True. But that’s the case in comedies. Unfortunately, this story…”

Trallus slowly raised his baton above his head and then swung it down with force.

“…is a tragedy.”

As the Demon King unleashed a wave of darkness, Rourke swiftly countered with a slash of his own, sending a wave of darkness in return.

The two dark energies clashed, scattering sparks.

The fierce battle between the two was undeniably nearing its conclusion.

“Areas… you…”

The student, a second-year like Rourke and of common birth, had always admired him.

At first, he found it strange that Rourke never summoned a contracted spirit and often lost badly. But as Rourke began to achieve results, that admiration grew.

Rourke’s ability to take down powerful high-ranking spirits using wit and technique instead of relying on strong spirits inspired him. It showed that a contracted spirit wasn’t everything.

Perhaps Rourke had deliberately avoided summoning a spirit to teach them that lesson. That thought had crossed his mind once.

But could it be that Rourke truly didn’t have a contracted spirit?

And what about that evil spirit…?

A tangled mix of emotions welled up inside him, an indescribable feeling that clouded his heart. Amidst it all, a loud voice rang out from a nearby seat.

“Go, Rourke!!”

Turning toward the source of the cheer, he saw a handsome boy with refined features. It was Gareth Orrot, who was close to Rourke.

The arena had fallen silent after Rourke’s revelation, with only the sounds of battle echoing through the air. That voice stood out clearly.

He turned his gaze back to the two combatants.

Rourke, facing the dark giant—the Demon King—without a hint of fear. He dodged the relentless barrage of fists by a hair’s breadth, sometimes getting knocked back but always getting back up and charging forward. It was the very image of the Rourke he had admired.

“…Go.”

Before he knew it, the words slipped out.

“Don’t lose, Areas!!”

Then, others began to join in, cheering for Rourke.

“Go, Areas!!”

“You can do it! I’ve bet all my allowance this month on you! Beat that smug Trallus!!”

“Trallus-sama! Do your best!!”

“Gooooo!!”

The cheers echoed through the arena.

The once-silent stands were now filled with voices supporting both combatants.

What would happen next, no one knew.

But in this moment, everyone was cheering wholeheartedly for the two who were giving it their all.

“Haaaaa!!”

With their cheers at his back, Rourke swung his sword with all his might to block the Demon King’s incoming fist.

The impact reverberated through the air as Rourke stopped the fist in its tracks. Then, with a roar, he raised his sword and cleaved the fist in two.

[OOOH!!]

Despite having its arm split open up to the shoulder, the Demon King showed no fear, swinging its other fist toward Rourke.

“Kuro!!”

At Rourke’s shout, his body was pulled upward as if by an invisible force, landing on a floating piece of debris beneath the evil spirit.

Looking back at the Demon King, he saw that it had already fully regenerated, as if it had never been injured.

“……”

The voices from the stands reached his ears.

Were they jeering him? Cheering for him? Or cheering for Trallus?

He couldn’t make out the words, nor did he care. No, it didn’t matter at all.

He was fighting as his true self, laid bare for all to see.

And his opponent was responding to him head-on, accepting him for who he truly was.

That was all that mattered.

That fact was incredibly comforting… and above all, it was fun.

“……Ah……”

Yes, it was fun.

Even though his body, pushed to its limits and drained of spiritual energy, felt as heavy as lead, his heart was light and buoyant.

“Hahaha!!”

Realizing this, Rourke’s excitement soared even higher.

He squeezed out every last drop of spiritual energy from his exhausted body and poured it into Kuro.

“Let’s go, Kurooo!!”

[▲☆=¥><!!]

Responding to Rourke’s shout, Kuro let out a roar and lifted a massive piece of the ground into the air like a giant spear.

[OOOH!!]

The Demon King, aiming to crush them first, roared and swung its fist.

“Do it!!”

At Rourke’s command, the massive stone spear shot toward the Demon King like a bullet.

“That much… won’t do it!!”

After all, it was just a rock. There was no way it could pierce the Demon King.

The massive spear, launched to shatter Kay’s overconfidence, pierced through the Demon King’s torso and hurtled toward Kay, who stood behind him.

“Tch!”

“AAAAH!!”

As Kay swiftly swung his baton, Siren spread her arms and let out a beautiful, singer-like voice. Instantly, a shield of sound materialized, shattering the tip of the oncoming spear and averting the crisis. Though relieved, Kay’s eyes widened as he noticed Rourke charging toward him from the middle of the spear’s length.
