I Tell You Monster. Volume 2 Chapter 1 part 5

TLNOTE : I’m really sorry! The timeline glitched, and Volume 2 Chapter 1 part 6 posted before Volume 2 Chapter 1 part 5 was fully posted. I’m fixing it now!

“Lonzder-san!?”

Elteel couldn’t fully process what had just happened.

The moment Whisper swung that strange rod, Lonzder was sent flying by an explosion. The blast was intense—she was embedded into the wall behind her, buried under rubble.

Not that it mattered. She wouldn’t die from something like that.

The real problem was—

“Might as well blow you up too, mutt.”

This man, who shouldn’t be an Unlaw, had just triggered an unmistakably supernatural phenomenon.

Her nose twitched.

There was no smell of gunpowder. Even Elteel’s heightened senses detected no precursor to the explosion.

The only thing she had sensed was—

“The smell… of blood!?”

The instant Whisper swung the club, she had definitely caught the scent of blood.

“Whoa, whoa! You really are a damn dog!”

The club swung again—sharper this time. But Elteel was faster, leaping sideways—

“────《Black Demon Dog: Bratskdog》!”

Her body transformed into a massive black hound—

her dress tearing apart, her belt becoming a collar, her coat fluttering like a cape.

And again—the stench of blood.

Looking closer, she saw fresh blood scattering from the club’s trajectory.

Having dodged, the blood hung in the air—

“Tch!”

And then—it exploded.

None of it made sense.

It smelled like blood—but was it even really blood?

Was this man truly not an Unlaw? What was that club? She understood none of its nature—

“Knowing the blood explodes is enough…!”

Even if the mechanics were unclear, grasping the phenomenon itself was sufficient.

Crouching low, she prepared to pounce—

“You bastard────!”

Behind her, Lonzder burst forward, kicking aside the rubble.

Though scorch marks covered the front of her clothes, she was unharmed.

“《Unsullied Gemstone Anvil Maiden》…!”

Her ability—enhanced physical durability, and the density/weight of objects she deemed part of herself.

She must have activated it the moment of the explosion. Impressive reflexes—

“Ah, wait, you’re in the way—”

“Huh!?”

Elteel’s lunge was already unstoppable.

From Whisper’s perspective—Lonzder charged head-on, while Elteel came in from an angle. The gem and the demon dog were about to collide—

“Move!”

“Just fall over!”

Ignoring each other’s words, they acted.

Lonzder slid, using the momentum to stand and close the gap with Whisper.

Elteel leaped, landing on the wall before instantly lunging at Whisper again.

Somehow, they avoided crashing—ending up flanking their target from two directions.

“Hss──!”

“Grr…!”

The gem’s leg snapped up—the demon dog’s fangs bared.

Both moved at inhuman speeds. The hound’s leap was faster, but the reversal meant their attacks would land simultaneously.

Even Elteel was surprised it had unintentionally turned into a simultaneous strike.

And then—

“Hyah-ha!”

The avenger laughed—and moved.

Against Lonzder’s high kick, he deliberately intercepted with the club in his right hand, slightly altering its trajectory. The impact sent him spinning mid-air as he evaded.

“Wha—!?”

Dodging past a stunned Lonzder—

“Oops, my hand slipped.”

With a light push of the club’s grip against her back, her balance faltered—

“Ah—”

“Wait────!?”

Her redirected kick—now heading straight for Elteel’s face as she lunged.

“Guh…!?”

The blow struck her nose dead-on—sending shockwaves through her skull. For Elteel, her nose was more vital than her eyes or ears.

Even if the kick’s power had been mitigated by the parry and imbalance—a gem’s strike was devastating.

For an instant—her vision blurred. Her sense of smell—went numb.

“Ah!”

“You bastard!”

She charged straight at Lonzder and knocked her down.

“Don’t mess with me! I don’t have those kinds of hobbies! At least turn back into a human! Though that would also piss me off! I hate breasts bigger than mine!”

“Wh-what are you talking about after kicking me in the nose—!”

Her restored sense of smell detected a foreign substance.

Lonzder’s right foot, which was pinned beneath her. Blood stains adhered to it.

By the time he realized what that meant, it was already too late.

“Revenge is—”

Whisper, who had already taken distance, spread his arms and shouted.

“—explosion!”

And it happened exactly as he said.

“Nnnnnnn… so good…”

Whisper, who had savored the lingering tremors in the atmosphere, let out a long breath.

A year and a half ago, as revenge for having his life’s pleasures ruined, this still wasn’t nearly enough, but regardless, enjoying the afterglow of something exploding felt pleasant.

Before him, rising dust clouds obscured what had happened to the person and creature.

But Whisper wasn’t anxious.

He hadn’t heard that these two would end with something of this degree.

“Cough, cough!”

The sound of coughing echoed. The dust clouds slowly cleared,

“Hey, Elteel. Didn’t you try to ignore me and escape?”

“That must be your imagination. I got caught up in it too.”

Even after being swallowed by the explosion, Lonzder remained intact, and Elteel, who had returned to human form, showed themselves.

“Hyaha!”

Whisper felt his cheeks pull upward.

He hadn’t finished them off. Though Lonzder’s clothes and body had scorch marks, that was all. Elteel was in a similar state. The floor was more spectacularly shattered than Whisper had expected, but they didn’t look like they had been caught in an explosion, and that was fine.

Without that, there would be no meaning to obtaining the weapon he now gripped.

“Hey hey, Slaney. How did you do it? It wasn’t just hardening your body, was it?”

“Don’t call me by that name, it makes me itch. Do you want to know how I dealt with the explosion?”

“Yeah, I’d like to know. Tell me like a detective would.”

Lonzder didn’t answer immediately, taking out a cigarette from her pocket, putting it in her mouth, and lighting it.

“…I always think this, but aren’t you smoking too much?”

“Sssssss… haaaaah…”

Lonzder ignored Elteel’s half-closed eyes, and instead dramatically inhaled and exhaled the smoke,

“—As if I’d tell you, idiot.”

She spat out dismissively.

“If anything, I’m the one with questions. What is that strange rod? Without using 《Unlaw》 abilities, I’ve never heard of technology that can do such things. Was attaching blood to the leg also part of that trigger mechanism?”

“Ha! As if I’d tell you, stupid!”

“I see. Then that’s fine.”

At that, Lonzder roughly ran her fingers through her hair and sighed.

“Well, whatever. I more or less understand.”

“Oh, really, Lonzder-san? Then let’s call it even for that kick you gave me earlier. So? What is that thing?”

“You noticed that I protected you from that explosion just now, right?”

“I noticed that it wasn’t intentional protection but just happened to turn out that way, so it doesn’t count.”

“…Honestly. What a smart-mouthed assistant.”

“So?”

“Hmm—I have absolutely no idea.”

“Excuse me?”

Ignoring Elteel’s retort, Lonzder stared at Whisper.

“No, it’s completely incomprehensible. That weapon and your movements just now—you’re a completely different person from a year and a half ago. You weren’t at that level back then. What exactly did you do to become like this?”

“Same to you, monster.”

“Ha. You got me there. Somehow my tongue isn’t working well today. Is it because I have a different assistant?”

“Don’t blame me for it.”

“Assistant, huh.”

Despite herself, Whisper snorted.

“I figured it out from just now. You two have absolutely no coordination. Even for an impromptu combo, it’s terrible. Nowhere near enough for entrusting your lives to each other on a battlefield.”

“I don’t want to hear that from someone who blows up their war buddies.”

“That’s that, this is this, young lady. No, actually, the fact that you’re her partner is the most laughable thing.”

“What do you—”

Because,

“That detective became a monster because of you, didn’t she?”

“—Huh?”

“Tch.”

At Whisper’s words, Elteel was caught off guard, and Lonzder clicked her tongue.

He had said something unnecessary, but it was convenient that Whisper’s attention had shifted away from her.

In that gap, she lifted one leg high.

Red patterns appeared and glowed faintly,

“《Unsullied Gemstone Anvil Maiden》—!”

She swung down with tremendous added weight.

“!?”

The massive impact shattered the floor, but didn’t stop there, spreading to the surroundings.

Originally, this was meant to deliver shock waves to the surroundings, but the gem improvised an arrangement.

The impact was driven deep downward, penetrating like an injection.

“—You bastard! If you do something like that in a place like this…!”

“A bomb maniac shouldn’t say that!”

The floor shook.

And it wasn’t just the floor—it transmitted to the walls, to the ceiling, and the vibrations throughout the entire hall grew stronger.

“An explosion and impact in a deteriorated catacomb that’s even flooded. The result is obvious.”

Crack—a fissure appeared in the wall and spread.

“Sorry, Whisper. I don’t understand that weapon—so I’m going to run away.”

Well, besides that,

“Feel free to get buried alive and die while you’re at it—!”

As a result, the surrounding walls collapsed, and an enormous amount of water came rushing in.
