Today, I decided to focus my observations on the heroines. “Know the protagonist, know the heroines, and in a hundred observations, you will never be in peril.”
With that in mind, let’s start with Takashiro Ai. Long black hair, with a refined and “pure” face. She wears our school’s blazer exactly according to regulations, giving off a serious vibe. At first glance, she might seem lacking in self-assertion, but wearing the blazer properly actually emphasizes her beautiful, streamlined figure. She is the perfect image of a main heroine from a romcom or a dating sim.
She has a very quiet personality, and as long as Sakakibara isn’t involved, she leads a very sensible school life. Her attitude in class is perfectly diligent, and she’s athletic too. She handles duties like classroom chores efficiently. In conversations with friends, she isn’t the type to speak much. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to call her the “Unattainable Flower” of our class.
Apparently, her hobby is cooking, which is obvious from the bentos she makes for Sakakibara and the others. She’s skilled at all household chores and reportedly handles half of the housework at her home. She’s even in charge of making dinner. For someone who doesn’t live alone, she really goes above and beyond. Her “feminine power” is over 9,000.
Next is Shironami Dorothy. She keeps her long blonde hair tied in a ponytail. Being mixed with American heritage, her nose is a bit high and her eyes are blue. She has a striking, model-like face. She wears her uniform a bit loosely with the collar open, a style that only works because of her great physique.
Her personality is the polar opposite of Takashiro’s—bright and active. I often see her taking photos or short videos with friends to post on social media. In a word, she’s a gal—or rather, a Gyaru. And she too is talented in both academics and sports. On top of being a Gyaru who excels at everything, her communication skills are top-tier. Boys are falling for her left and right because she treats the “popular kids” and the “loners” with the same friendliness. Well, since Sakakibara is in the picture, they’re all destined for rejection.
She seems to have many hobbies. The “multi-talented” type. Her family is apparently rich; while she does typical high school girl stuff like social media and cafe-hopping, I occasionally hear “dangerous” words like skydiving or bungee jumping in her daily conversations, so it seems she loves active pursuits.
It’s like “Stillness” in Takashiro and “Motion” in Shironami. These heroines are strikingly opposite. They have great individuality—I like it.
These two are love rivals, but they aren’t constantly at each other’s throats. Surprisingly, they get along quite well. Of course, because they are competing for Sakakibara, there are many moments of conflict. If one gets too close to him, the other jumps in between; they sabotage each other’s “Ahn” attempts, and they fight over who gets to be his partner for pair-work in class.
However, when Sakakibara isn’t around, they talk normally, and apparently, they even go out to have fun with other friends. I don’t have deep insight into the relationship between people who know they are love rivals, so if I ever make contact, I’d like to ask them about it.
By the way, there’s an event called “Residential Training” coming up soon. It’s for new students to get to know each other, but I was so focused on observing Sakakibara and company that I barely heard the details. Since it says “residential,” I assume we’re staying somewhere. A change of environment might be a good chance. I hope I can make contact with Sakakibara somehow… I should start thinking of a plan now. I’ll have to look up what this training actually entails later.

It’s the residential training. According to the homeroom teacher, our school rents a facility with conference rooms and lodging for a three-day, two-night trip to help freshmen bond.
The content was mostly boring orientation stuff, like explaining the school curriculum, but I had one stroke of luck. I ended up in the same room as our romcom protagonist, Sakakibara Akira.
This was my chance. I used all of my meager communication skills to make contact with him. As expected of a romcom lead, we went from first-meeting status to calling each other by our first names and exchanging social media accounts in one smooth flow. Truly impressive. To be honest, after I spoke first, I was just nodding along, so I guess this is the difference in “human power.”
Also, looking closely, his visuals are actually pretty good. He’s that classic “High-spec disguised as an ordinary high schooler” trope. You have no right to call yourself “ordinary,” and that too makes him a perfect romcom protagonist.
By the way, there was one other boy in the room. His name is Sasaki Kosuke. After talking with him, I became certain: this Sasaki guy is the “Talkative, oblivious classmate close to the protagonist” archetype found in every romcom.
Sasaki had a silver tongue and cracked a lot of jokes. He’s also somewhat slow on the uptake. The perfect “Best Friend” character.
Now, when three boys get together, the conversation naturally turns to girls. Or rather, Sasaki started talking passionately about Takashiro and Shironami. How “well-developed” they are, how beautiful their hair is, etc. How perfectly is this guy going to fit into the “Friend Character” mold? Sakakibara had a strained expression, but being a boy himself, it wasn’t like he was uninterested.
Naturally, the conversation turned toward me. Perhaps because Sakakibara wanted to get away from the topic of the girls who are in love with him, he joined Sasaki in interrogating me about my type or if there was anyone I was interested in. Since I didn’t want to casually drop Takashiro or Shironami’s names, I mentioned the Student Council President. I didn’t remember her name, though.
They seemed satisfied with that and stopped prying, but Sasaki then began talking about the Student Council President just like he had before.
I mostly tuned him out, but apparently, her name is Yamato Toka. Since her appearance is so top-tier, she might eventually join the “Sakakibara Harem” (a name I just made up). I’ll keep it in mind for now.
Month A, Day !
Second day of the training. During breakfast, a group of girls came over and asked if we’d like to have lunch together. The members were Takashiro, Shironami, and one more. Before Sakakibara could say a word, Sasaki agreed with high tension. Sakakibara looked miserable. Sorry, Sakakibara, but it seems you can’t escape your romantic-comedy destiny.
Takashiro and Shironami, determined to somehow appeal to Sakakibara, instantly claimed the seats on either side of him at the speed of light. It felt like Sasaki was complaining about something, but he was quickly silenced by the wordless pressure coming from Takashiro and Shironami. Poor Sasaki. As an aside, the girl who came together with those two is apparently called Umihara Sei. She would certainly qualify as a beautiful girl, but whether she fits into the “heroine slot” is still up in the air. The seating arrangement ended up being:

Sakakibara was subjected to a barrage of “aah~” appeal attacks from Takashiro and Shironami. His expression made it impossible to tell whether he was happy or suffering. Sasaki, meanwhile, shot jealous looks in Sakakibara’s direction, but made use of his natural conversational skills to keep talking with Umihara. I didn’t catch what they were talking about, but it didn’t seem like the atmosphere was bad.
I watched the troubled Sakakibara, answering the occasional question directed at me while eating my meal slowly. I should add that I had to try very hard to suppress a smirk from the “Romcom Waves” radiating from them.
