Romcom Pattern of Month A
Month A, Day ○
Since I’m starting to live on my own, and for some reason my parents recommended it, I’ve decided to start keeping a diary today—though I probably won’t be able to write in it every day.
Today was the high school entrance ceremony. Turning over a new leaf and leaving my parents’ house to live solo, I woke up a bit early, ate breakfast, and headed out. Living alone involves a surprisingly large amount of chores, but it makes me feel a bit more like an adult.
When I arrived at the school gates, several new students and their parents were already taking photos in front of a sign that read [Entrance Ceremony]. Since my parents couldn’t make it due to work, I didn’t feel like standing in front of the sign myself, but I decided to snap a photo anyway just to report back that I had arrived safely.
Click. One shot of the front entrance.
With that done, I checked the class assignment board next to the entrance. It looked like I was in Class A. While lightly scanning the inside of the school building, I headed up the stairs toward my classroom.
And on this day, I don’t think I’ll ever forget the scene I witnessed when I stepped inside. Even as I write this, I find it hard to believe.
There was a plain-looking male student being cornered by two beautiful girls. You’re probably wondering what on earth I’m talking about. Honestly, I didn’t understand it either.
I silently backed out of the classroom and peeked through the door, eavesdropping. As I began to grasp the situation, I was hit with an overwhelming urge to vomit sugar.
Basically, it goes like this: One of the beauties is the guy’s childhood friend. She’s liked him since they were kids and used the start of high school as an excuse to confess. By the way, she’s the “Long Black Hair, Orthodox Childhood Friend Heroine” type.
The other one has blonde hair in a ponytail and a Western-looking face (maybe she’s mixed?). Apparently, she was bullied in middle school because of her blonde hair, this guy saved her, she fell in love, and upon finding out they were in the same high school, she decided to confess. What is this?
This is way too interesting!!!!!
Unbelievable, right? But this is reality! Real life! It’s shocking that such a development can actually happen. I deeply regret not recording this on my smartphone. This is a “love triangle battlefield” of the highest order. A total trope-fest. In this scenario:

The Guy in Question The Protagonist
The Long Black Hair Girl Main Heroine
The Blonde Ponytail Girl Main Heroine #2
And so begins a bittersweet, sugary-sweet romcom centered around this guy…
I got a bit excited and wrote some weird stuff, but anyway, I decided to keep watching.
As for the boy in question, his answer was that even if he were suddenly confessed to, he couldn’t give an answer right away, and that if he were going to go out with someone, he wanted to properly get to know them first before doing so. In other words, it seemed that for now, both of them would start off as just friends. The long–black-haired childhood friend wore a bitter expression. Whether you want to call that sincerity, or just interpret it as dragging things out, is hard to say—but all things considered, it’s probably the most reasonable response.
Once it seemed like the situation had settled down, I quietly erased my footsteps and left the area, then reentered the classroom about five minutes later. After all, barging in immediately after something like that happened could easily lead to a “You were watching, weren’t you?!” situation.
Just like the other classmates who were filing in one after another, I took the seat indicated by the number written on the blackboard. That’s when I discovered that it was the seat directly to the left of the boy in question. This should be worth observing.
The long–black-haired girl sat to the boy’s right, and the blonde ponytail girl sat directly behind him. …Hoho. This is definitely worth observing—details omitted.
Before long, a woman who was presumably our homeroom teacher entered the classroom. From there on, things followed the standard script.
The homeroom teacher, followed by the students, gave brief self-introductions and went over the day’s schedule. Then, without much delay, we lined up, entered the gymnasium, and attended the entrance ceremony. There was nothing particularly interesting about that part, so I’ll skip it. At most, the long–black-haired girl and the blonde ponytail were shooting sparks at each other with their eyes, while the boy in question fidgeted helplessly between them. The other boys were sending jealous looks his way, clearly envious of the fact that he was getting along with two beautiful girls. Ah, right. During the self-introductions, the names of those three were finally revealed, so I’ll record them here.
The boy in question → Sakakibara Akira
Long black hair → Takashiro Ai
Blonde ponytail → Shironami Dorothy
They were names that looked simple but were actually kind of a pain. Especially Sakakibara and Shironami.
As for the ceremony, the principal was a rare breed who actually kept his speech short and to the point. I forgot the content, though.
Let’s see… also, the Student Council President’s appearance really stood out. Tall, slender, with refined features and a way of speaking that felt very dignified. A real Yamato Nadeshiko type.
After the ceremony ended and we received some brief announcements in the classroom, we were dismissed.
Now then… just what kind of story are you guys going to show me? I’ll be observing every single detail from one to a hundred, so you’d better keep it interesting! Stay tuned!

Month A, Day △
The entrance ceremony is over, and my high school life has officially begun… but unlike your average freshman, I head to school every day with a very specific kind of excitement.
Why? Because of that student, Sakakibara Akira. And the two beauties who like him romantically, Takashiro Ai and Shironami Dorothy. I have a noble mission to record the romcom story they are weaving… or rather, I just want to observe them.
Since I was shown the incredible sight of a boy being confessed to by two beauties simultaneously, I have a duty to watch over this romance, meddle a little if possible, and ensure a harem is formed (not really, but you get it).
Therefore, before making contact, I am observing their daily behavior. I need to see how their daily life looks after the “Confession Event” to find the right timing to step in.
First, regarding their behavior during class… as expected, nothing too crazy happened. Well, it would be a problem if something happened during class. However, I did see glimpses of it. Takashiro Ai, the childhood friend heroine, would steal glances at Sakakibara every time the teacher turned their back to the board. Shironami Dorothy, the blonde ponytail, didn’t even care about the teacher’s gaze and stared at him openly. The teacher had an indescribable expression at her boldness. Rest in peace, Sensei.
Once the morning classes ended, it was the long-awaited lunch break. My school has a cafeteria, but Sakakibara doesn’t need it. Why? Because Takashiro Ai usually prepares a bento for him. It’s that classic romcom event: “I made this lunch… I hope it suits your taste…”
The contents change daily—fried chicken, hamburger steaks, chicken nanban, and so on. In addition to the side dishes boys love, she even provides miso soup in a thermos—the perfect lunch style. Her “feminine power” is off the charts. Seeing that Sakakibara doesn’t seem to mind, the saying “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” really rings true.
Shironami seems to be poor at cooking; she looks frustrated watching them… but since she ends up eating some of Takashiro’s delicious bento anyway, she can’t really complain. …Yes, Takashiro doesn’t just make lunch for Sakakibara, but for Shironami as well. Why is she cooking for her love rival? Well, I guess she’s just naturally the “caretaker” type.
So, is Shironami losing to Takashiro in terms of her approach? Not quite. While lunch is Takashiro’s domain, the short breaks between classes are Shironami’s turn. In those ten-minute intervals, Shironami aggressively makes her move.
Shironami closes the physical distance. For example, she’ll lean in until their shoulders touch to look at his notes or textbooks, or she’ll casually grab his hand during small talk. Being mixed with American heritage, she seems to have no hesitation with skinship. Cornered by Shironami, who has a model-like figure with all the right curves, Sakakibara is completely overwhelmed.
Thus, Takashiro Ai and Shironami Dorothy engage in a fierce romantic battle every day. And as the days pass, the intensity only increases.
One day, Takashiro, perhaps inspired by Shironami’s aggressiveness, executed a so-called “Ahn” (feeding him) while blushing furiously. You see, while she had been making him bentos, she hadn’t actually fed him until now. Despite her bold confession, she’s surprisingly shy. At that moment, Takashiro possessed a destructive power worthy of a romcom heroine. With her face slightly flushed, reaching out with her chopsticks while peering into Sakakibara’s eyes—that’s a rare sight you usually only see in fiction. Even Sakakibara turned bright red and panicked. Even his reaction was that of a perfect romcom protagonist.
But Shironami wouldn’t be outdone. She started holding back on her usual close-range skinship. Then, just when Sakakibara began to wonder why… she tapped his shoulder from behind, and when he turned around, she poked his cheek with her finger… Yes, that legendary situation known as “Hehe… gotcha!”…! Compared to her previous skinship, the physical contact area was tiny… but this visualization of “playful mischief” really tugs at a man’s heartstrings. Sakakibara was thrown into total confusion by the embarrassment and the heart-pounding moment. The other boys in class were radiating murderous intent from jealousy.
Seriously though, they are flirting quite boldly despite me, an “outsider,” being right there. It’s honestly impressive. The parties involved (especially Sakakibara) might be too overwhelmed by the fact that they’re being pursued by two beauties to notice their surroundings… but the way the two girls attack him without caring about public eyes feels like “marking their territory”—a way of saying, “I’ve claimed him, so don’t touch.” The romcom battle may have already moved beneath the surface.
Watching the Sakakibara + Takashiro + Shironami trio is fine and all, but I’m constantly hoping it turns into a harem-style romcom. Sakakibara’s “specs” aren’t bad—in fact, he’s almost too high-spec for a high schooler, so it’s not impossible. He’s good at sports and academics; his only flaw is his indecisiveness when he can’t choose between the two, but he’s sincere and kind—a real romcom lead. If I nudge things a bit, more heroines might gather. To make this “Romcom Observation” more interesting, I’ll need to start gathering info on the other girls in school. It looks like I’m going to be busy. Still, my top priority is observing the romcom right in front of me to satisfy my own curiosity. Honestly, just watching is hilarious. I’m going to keep observing more and more.
