Corpse King Volume 1 Epilogue

Epilogue

A continent where great powers vie for supremacy, exploring uncharted lands and expanding their territories—Xenoma.

Overlooked by the towering [Sacred Tree Ygguel] at its heart, this vast land once fled the grasp of the Demon King and has thrived for over a century.

At its northern edge—

A forbidden land, forsaken by green, where the Peak of Thunder, the Lake of Poison, and the Wilderness of Flame mock the majesty of the continent itself.

An isolated island, severed from the mainland, existed there—gathering both fear and reverence.

An undisputed realm of monsters, beyond human reach.

Upon this Black Isle, standing as though it ruled over it all, was an ancient castle.

Gathered within were ten individuals—

men and women, young and old.

A scattered assembly of Transcendents, those who treated human civilization and purpose as mere dust, living solely for themselves.

They were known as the [Ten Monarchs].

Ranked from First to Tenth Seat, they were, in both name and reality, the strongest ten humans alive.

Unlike explorers who made their living hunting demons or delving into uncharted lands, these were living calamities—fighting demons, primordial beasts, or even humans on a whim.

Each bore the title of “Monarch”, a symbol of their power. Their sole reason for joining the Ten Monarchs was self-refinement.

For such untethered souls to gather in one place was nearly unheard of.

But today was different. The topic at hand warranted it—the First Seat, the eldest among them, had issued his first mandatory summons.

“A report from the Iron City of Gagiur. The [Corpse King] has reappeared.”

The reactions to the old man’s grave pronouncement varied.

“…Hoh. So that brat wasn’t dead after all.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa! You had us worried for nothing!”

“Knowing him, he was probably waiting for the perfect moment to make an entrance.”

“Hey, hey—who’s this ‘Corpse king’? Lyara, you know ‘em?”

“…No.”

“No surprise you two wouldn’t. He’s a relic from over a century ago.”

“Ugh… no way we’d know. We haven’t even lived a hundred years, right?”

“Mm.”

Amid the flurry of voices, one person reacted far more intensely than the rest.

“Shi-Shiou?! Is it true?! Truly, truly true?!”

“There is no mistake.”

“Wh-what’s the big deal? Why’s the Fourth Seat so worked up?”

“He’s her disciple.”

The man’s words drew an intrigued “Hoh~” from a young man nearby.

Ignoring them all, the stunning woman turned on her heel, eager to leave.

“I cannot stay! I must go to Shiou at once!”

“Hold.”

“Why stop me?!”

“The Corpse King must have his own reasons. Your presence would draw too much attention. Wait until we have a pretext.”

“Guh… Old man… mark my words…!”

“Hmph. Still a fool for your disciple, I see.”

Watching their exchange, Lyara, the girl in the iron mask seated at the lowest rank, seemed unusually perplexed.

“…The Elder… showing concern for someone… First time I’ve seen that.”

“Hey, hey! If even the First Seat talks like that, this guy’s gotta be crazy strong, right?”

The response to the young man’s question was unanimous.

“Without question, he rivals us in strength. Though his youth makes him reckless—a flaw in an otherwise perfect gem.”

“Whoa! I wanna meet him!”

“You will. Soon enough.”

The murmured words, spoken almost nostalgically, hung sharply in the hall of the Ten Monarchs.

Here, where every being stood equal to—or beyond—the Corpse King, a new storm was brewing.

A Greater Demon wandered.

Clad in dazzling contrast of black and white, this demon wielded a sword with motions nearly indistinguishable from a human’s.

“S-Stop! Stop iiiiiiiit!!!”

The target of its blade was another demon—a fellow Greater Demon.

Yet, it butchered its kin as effortlessly as twisting a baby’s arm, calmly, methodically.

As its brethren dissolved into spurting blood and materials, the demon grinned.

Its features leaned feminine, though demons had no true gender—merely ornamental beauty, as meaningless as the pearls it adorned itself with.

“I heard, I heard! You’ve come back~…”

In high spirits, this wandering existence began to move with purpose—for the first time in over a century.

Greater Demon, Rank: Knight.

“Let’s go see him~!”

A rank granted to only one—an exceptional title bestowed by the Demon King himself.

A singularity tasked with hunting down traitorous kin.

The Fiftieth Greater Demon, Fulcas.

“Wait for me, Shiou-kun!”

The most monstrous of them all cheered like a child in the blood-drenched depths of the forbidden lands.
